Tangram works with clients, designers and architects to specify and supply contemporary furniture, lighting, blinds and rugs.  We’re proud to say that we’ve worked on a wide variety of projects over our 25 + years including homes, offices, restaurants, cafes, museums and golf clubs. We’ve developed a diverse portfolio of manufacturers which have been thoughtfully selected based on their design, quality and reliability – the very best in European contemporary furniture.

From concept through to completion, we aim to inspire our clients and deliver great interior solutions using remarkable products.

At the end of October 2020 we became a 100% Employee Owned business, securing the long term future for employees and assuring clients that we are as focussed as ever on delivering outstanding service with experienced and committed professionals.

Our Story

Tangram was founded in 1993. The team was small and had to take a hands-on approach to all aspects of the business. During these early days, processes were constantly worked on and invaluable know-how was gained – know-how which is still very much relied on today. Our understanding of products, lead times and providing the right resource for the job meant we worked efficiently and effectively.

As a result, Tangram could grow; we took on new projects, new manufacturers, introduced new brands to the UK and the team expanded – as did our showroom when we relocated to Jeffrey Street, in 2000.

We have come a long way: we continue to take on new projects that challenge us and enable us to develop and grow. Today we have a team of experienced designers, product specialists, first-class installers and stable management procedures. This supports our focus on projects, whatever the setting.

2020 has been a remarkable year.  Despite the impact of COVID Tangram has moved ahead and made the next and very significant step in its life.  We have become Employee Owned, creating an environment for even greater collaboration and teamwork. Our team now have over 70 years of collective experience at Tangram and look forward to using this enormous resource for the benefit of all clients.

There are many companies who portray great service and knowledge. But what makes Tangram different is that we can back that statement up with fact and real hands-on experience.

Whilst the aesthetic of products is massively important, so too is the functionality, practicality and longevity. We hold strong, long-lasting relationships with our manufacturers and this allows us to gain a true understanding of the care and attention that goes into the making of each piece of furniture, light and rug. We have also been involved in the actual installations – we know how things go together.

This knowledge and understanding informs and supports our design and specification activities. Along with the commitment and engagement of a team who own their own business this makes us confident in saying we are the leading experts in contemporary furniture and interiors.

Julian Darwell-Stone

Julian Darwell-Stone

Director

Julian has more than 20 years’ experience in the furniture industry with previous experience in property & facilities management, property development, management consultancy and as an officer in the Royal Marines.

Having recently guided the business to become Employee Owned, Julian has stepped back from day-to-day management. He remains focused on key client relationships and managing major projects as well as advising on company strategy.

Sarah Ramsay

Managing Director

Having been with Tangram for over 20 years, Sarah has enormous experience in all aspects of the business and is now focused on leading the team and business growth.

With a background in textile design, Sarah continues to be involved in design and project management working with architects, interior designers and directly with clients.

 

Jenny Milne

Jenny Milne

Interior Designer

Jenny joined the Tangram team at the start of 2012 after 10 years as an interior designer with Inhouse.

Originally a trained architect, Jenny uses her skills in CAD drawing and space planning to assist the Contract Interiors department but mainly deals with the Residential side of the business. She works closely with clients to offer tailored product advice and create bespoke interiors.

Joanne Golden

Interior Designer

Joanne is a qualified interior designer and joined Tangram in 2004 after previous experience with Craig & Rose.

Working predominately on residential projects, Joanne offers product and design advice ranging from a single chair to an entire interior. Having worked on a number of very different interior projects, Joanne has the expertise to fulfil any brief!

Tracy

Tracy Innes

Finance and Operations Manager

Tracy has over 30 years of office experience undertaking various roles such as Commercial Manager, Executive and Personal Assistant. She manages all the financial duties, our customer deliveries, orders and logistics.

Tracy is always one step ahead and ensures that all orders are up-to-date and handled as efficiently as possible. She also has the added benefit of a qualification in Interior Design!

Melissa Mathieson

Interior Designer

Melissa joined Tangram in April 2018 after graduating with bachelor’s degree in Interior and Environmental Design.

Melissa focuses primarily on the residential side of the business but uses her CAD and space planning skills to assist any project. Through previously working on live projects and being a part of international design events; Melissa enjoys collaborating with clients to bring them their best design solution.

Our home of inspiration

When you step into our showroom you will be greeted by our friendly design specialists who will assist with all design enquiries. The team are highly knowledgeable about our products: you benefit from a knowledge built up over many years, gained through regular visits to trade fairs and frequent training often received directly from our manufacturers. Our expertise enables us to advise our customers to choose products that our perfectly suited to individual style, budget and functionality.
