In comparison, trends in the contemporary furniture and lighting industry tend to have a slightly longer life cycle; such as the use of metallics and marble.  We discuss some of the most apparent trends at this year's LDF...

Contemporary residential architecture displays a preference for large expanses of glass, allowing the occupiers to enjoy a great outlook and flooding the interior with natural light.  However, the cost may be a lack of privacy and the need at times to screen out excess light and heat.

Tangram have been working with MARK Product for many years and it is a pleasure to watch the company and brand grow stronger every year.  Founded by John Miller and Anna Hart in 2008, Mark Product is based in Penryn in Cornwall which gives the company a unique DNA.  Much of the products are designed in Cornwall and many are made there too.

Our early favourite products from the collection were the Horizon screen made in solid timber which creates fabulous shadows and is a beautiful piece, the clever Spin table with its magnetic fixings and the Arris armchair with a solid timber frame and soft cushions which is fast becoming a classic.  Recent additions which we think are going to prove very popular are as follows;

'Flag' table and bench – a combination of slab ended tables and benches in laminate with a clever mitred joint and hardwood edge, a great idea to ensure a hardy product and available in a huge range of colours. Flag-table+bench_01

With the recent introduction of new legislation on blind cords and child safety, we’re focusing on the importance of blind safety.   Blinds are an essential part of many interiors as they provide privacy while still allowing light to shine through and keep the place feeling bright! But... Keeping safe with the correct blinds is equally as important.

The corporate work place has seen a dramatic change in attitude within the last few years. The work dynamic has changed, become more relaxed and nurturing, with creative giants such as Apple, Microsoft and Google leading the way. Employee motivation has refocused so that an employee is no longer expected to sit in a cubical with their head down but is encouraged to seek communication, inspiration and enjoyment through their work.

This shift is mirrored in the interior design of offices, as more break out areas are created, vibrant colours are added and nature is brought inside. The new energetic and comfortable workplace is meant to make the employees feel at home, away from home. With contemporary breakout furniture becoming the centrepiece of many contract interior designs.
