The Lookout by Gardener’s Cottage was one of the most highly anticipated restaurant openings in Scotland.
The exciting partnership is between Edinburgh restaurant, The Gardener’s Cottage and Collective – the organisation that has redeveloped the City Observatory site on Calton Hill into a new home for contemporary art.
Built on a cantilever so the restaurant is partially suspended over Calton Hill’s northwest slope, The Lookout by Gardener’s Cottage features floor to ceiling glass windows offering panoramic views across Edinburgh and the Firth of Forth.
We had the pleasure of working with the client to select and supply a dining chair that would allow diners to sit back and enjoy the breath-taking views, as well as the delicious food.
As the restaurant prides itself on it’s seasonal, earthy and honest flavours, we felt the interior had to equally reflect this no nonsense ethos. Hans J. Wegner CH88T chair from Carl Hansen & Son was thus the perfect match – simple, elegant and comfortable.

Since opening, we have continued to develop the restaurant with the client and have added blinds, soft seating and outdoor furniture.
Andreu World Reverse tables and Sit stackable chairs were chosen providing a practical and beautiful solution for the outdoor space. In addition, Stua Deneb tables and benches were selected to accommodate larger parties.
