Montis was established in 1974 by the Van Den Berg brothers. Beginning with just two employees a leather cutter and an upholsterer, the goal was simple: designing modern furniture with superior seating comfort.
Their big breakthrough came in the form of an upholstery technique that entails slipping a ‘jacket’ around an armchair. Leather covers zipping around metal frames: a technique that Montis brought to the market with the launch of the Chaplin. This chair is now widely considered a modern classic.
Montis is a forward-thinking company and their ethos reflects this, from techniques, materials and long term sustainability they know how to create timeless pieces.
